CHN-2 data center

Opening in 2028, CHN-2 represents the completion phase of Iron Mountain's Chennai campus, delivering 19 MW of expansion capacity across 396,075 square feet. The facility features TIA-942 Rated 3 infrastructure with advanced liquid-cooling capabilities, engineered specifically for high-density AI and compute workloads expected to emerge over the next several years. CHN-2 provides 8 data halls with block N+2C redundancy, A/B underground feeds, and integration with our CHN-1 facility for seamless campus-wide operations. Located at Plot No. 84 in Chennai's Ambattur industrial corridor, CHN-2 holds comprehensive certifications, including SOC 1, SOC 2, PCI DSS, and the full ISO suite, while pursuing IGBC Green Data Center certification.

CHN-2 and CHN-1 operate as integrated facilities on our 4.3-acre Chennai campus, sharing infrastructure, including the 68 MVA main feed, a dedicated 230 kVA substation, and a comprehensive carrier ecosystem with all Tier 1 carriers on-site. Organizations can deploy in CHN-1 (23.2 MW, 383,540 square feet opening 2026) and expand seamlessly into CHN-2 (19 MW, 396,075 square feet opening 2028) while maintaining cross-campus connectivity and unified operations. This phased approach provides 42 MW of combined capacity across 16 data halls totaling 779,616 square feet of AI-ready space.

CHN-2 maintains Iron Mountain's comprehensive compliance framework spanning infrastructure, security, environmental, and operational standards. Iron Mountain is the only provider worldwide to comply with ISO 27001 (information security), ISO 50001 (energy), ISO 14001 (environment), and ISO 9001 (quality management) simultaneously across all global locations. CHN-2 features TIA-942 Rated 3 certification, liquid-cooling compliance for high-density workloads, SOC 1 and SOC 2 attestations for security and availability controls, and PCI DSS certification for payment card industry requirements. Additional certifications include ISO 22301 (business continuity) and ISO 14064 (greenhouse gas accounting). The facility is also pursuing IGBC Green Data Center certification.

CHN-2 delivers carrier-neutral and cloud-neutral connectivity infrastructure optimized for organizations requiring robust international and domestic bandwidth. The facility benefits from Chennai's position as India's primary submarine cable landing station, where most of the country's 17 major subsea connections terminate, alongside Mumbai. This coastal positioning provides CHN-2 customers with direct access to international bandwidth reaching the Middle East, Europe, and Southeast Asia. On-campus infrastructure includes all Tier 1 carriers, Metro Wave connectivity for high-bandwidth applications, dark fiber for dedicated connections, and redundant meet-me rooms with diverse fiber entry points, ensuring resilient connectivity paths.

CHN-2's phased opening is scheduled to start in 2028 as the second facility on Iron Mountain's Chennai campus. If certain requirements are met, organizations planning infrastructure deployments for 2028 and beyond can secure capacity in CHN-2 today through early contracting. For organizations requiring earlier deployment, CHN-1 offers 23.2 MW across 383,540 square feet, opening in 2026, with seamless expansion pathways into CHN-2 as additional capacity needs emerge. The phased campus approach enables customers to align their infrastructure roadmap with business growth while maintaining consistent operations across both facilities.
